Why regular maintenance matters
Aluminium is durable and corrosion resistant, but dust, salts, worn seals, and neglected hardware can still reduce performance. A simple routine protects the finish, smooth operation, water management, and long-term value of the installation.
A short inspection every month and a more complete service twice a year can prevent many common aluminium system failures.
Recommended maintenance schedule
Quick inspection
- Remove dust from frames
- Check opening and closing
- Inspect visible seals
Routine service
- Wash frames with mild soap
- Lubricate hinges and hardware
- Check gaskets and silicone
- Clear drainage channels
Full review
- Check locking points
- Replace damaged seals
- Inspect glass and fasteners
- Record product condition
Cleaning aluminium frames correctly
Use clean water, a soft cloth, and a mild pH-neutral detergent. Rinse thoroughly and dry the surface to avoid mineral marks. Do not use abrasive pads, strong acids, solvents, or sharp tools on powder-coated or anodized finishes.
Hardware, seals, and drainage
Keep tracks and drainage openings free of debris. Apply the lubricant recommended for the hardware and never force a stiff handle. Replace cracked gaskets or failed silicone early to prevent water and air leakage.
When to call a specialist
Contact a qualified technician when a frame is distorted, glass is damaged, locks no longer align, water enters during rain, or a finish shows unusual corrosion. Early intervention is safer and usually less expensive.
